Afternoon Walk in Ayurveda
Best Time, Around 2–5 PM, during the time of day, when the mind can become a bit restless, unfocused, or fatigued.
This time is perfect for grounding and calming practices like a gentle walk.
Some of the Benefits:

Balances the nervous system, and creativity. ( air and ether elements Vata dosha), which governs movement.
Helps digest mental impressions from the earlier part of the day.
Encourages circulation and oxygenation (prana)flow, supporting energy without overstimulation.
Supports metabolism and digestion, especially if taken after lunch.
Connects you with nature, which is healing and grounding in itself.

Walk slowly and mindfully, not as exercise, but as a moving meditation.
Preferably in nature, among trees, in a garden, barefoot on grass if possible (earthing).
Breathe deeply and allow the senses to relax: observe sounds, smells, textures, and the light.
If walking after lunch, keep it gentle, a 10–20 minute stroll to aid digestion.
Avoid engaging in intense conversations or using your phone. This is time to digest and settle the nervous system.

If your body is naturally hotter, (Pitta) we want to keep it cool and calm:
Avoid walking during the hottest part of the day, especially between 12–3 PM in summer.
Choose shady areas, like tree lined paths or parks.
Wear light, breathable, and loose clothing preferably cotton or linen in cooling colors like white, blue, or green.
Cover your head with a hat or scarf to protect from heat.
Walk gently, avoid speed walking or intensity.
Stay hydrated, sip cool (not icy) water or rosewater infused water before or after.
Avoid walking on hot pavement or sand, especially barefoot, as it increases heat in the body.

I just wanted the simple stuff. I was curious about Ayurveda, but I didn’t want to change my healthy vegan diet. I wasn’t open to trying ghee, honestly thought I didn’t need any of it.
It took time for me to adjust. Eventually, I began to understand the profound impact of cooking at home, not just following cravings, but truly learning what to cook for myself and my family, based on what we actually need… especially as the seasons shift.
Ayurveda isn’t about adding a bunch of things. It’s about aligning with nature. It’s about life. If it has to do with life, Ayurveda is already part of it.

We want the easy stuff, the quick tips, the feel good moments. But once you begin to create space for real healing, you start to see the depth of Yoga and Ayurveda.
These aren’t trends or temporary fixes. They are lifelong studies, living traditions that ask us to keep learning, unlearning, and evolving.
The deeper you go, the more you realize… this path has no end, only layers waiting to be revealed.

A warrior, always by my side, ready to find a solution to any challenge or obstacle we face together.
We’ve been together for over two decades, slowly realizing that we have become each other. We’ve learned, grown, and complemented one another in ways beyond measure. It’s not always easy; you probably know that, but respect, compassion, and understanding are essential.
This moment was captured by an amazing photographer, Robert Sturman a kind soul who creates art through the expression of all beings, recognizing our shared essence and honoring each with deep respect for life. I’ve learned so much from Robert. Photography isn’t just about taking an image; it’s about honoring what stands before the lens. It’s not about stealing a moment, but receiving it, a story, a soul’s reflection.
Through Robert’s lens, I’ve come to see that photography is an act of presence, an exchange of energy rather than mere capture. It is about witnessing, honoring, and preserving the truth of what stands before us. Not taking, but embracing.

Last year, @herbariumbymonicaharari opened its doors at the yoga center, and we had such a wonderful opening weekend. Friends and family gathered to support my dear friend Monica. Among them was @xochitlamarillas a friend she’d known for a long time. Xochitl was so impressed by what we were doing at the studio that she immediately wanted to share it with everyone, literally!

Xochitl is a TV host on “Que Buen Día”, a daily show on Canal Doce in Tijuana, BC.

Long story short, shortly after Monica asked me if it was okay to share my number with Xochitl, I hesitated a little. But when we had our very first interview, it felt so natural.
Xochitl made it so easy and effortless, it was like we were just having coffee, talking about the incredible benefits of yoga, and how sometimes, even a simple breath can help reset our nervous system.

Since then, I’ve had the honor of being invited back to share more about yoga’s benefits, including Yoga Nidra and Pranayama for those who have suffered from breast cancer (model: my mom 🩷) and at the beginning of the year guiding others to set positive intentions and move their bodies to start the new year with health and wellness. Most recently, I had the privilege of speaking with @veronica.carrillo84 about the importance of yoga as we embrace the spring season shedding old layers, just like nature does when the snow melts from the mountains.

Each experience has been such an incredible gift, and I’m beyond thankful 🙏🏼🩷 for these opportunities to share the healing power of yoga with others. Thank you again, Monica for connecting me with such amazing people. 🙏💫

Ahh, the season of fresh air, blooming flowers, and a sense of renewal is here! The snow melts and the earth awakens, it's the perfect time to hit refresh.

In Ayurveda, spring is the season for cleansing. Spring is a Kapha season, dominated by earth and water, which can leave our bodies feeling sluggish, congested, and heavy. It's like carrying around the baggage of winter!

What spices do you use when cooking?

Try this simple, yet flavorful, combination: Fennel, Coriander, and Cumin. You can dry roast them to bring out their aroma, then add them to your food after cooking, or sprinkle them on dishes when you’re eating out for an extra boost of flavor.

Alternatively, these three spices can be used at the start of the cooking process. Add the seeds to ghee and let them pop before adding your veggies or whatever you’re cooking—this will infuse the dish with a rich, warm flavor from the very beginning.
Spices not only enhance the taste of your food, but in Ayurveda, they are also valued for their ability to improve digestion and nutrient absorption.

Mamsa- muscle tissue.
When a muscle is rigid, the flow or awareness is blocked. Emotions such as fear, anxiety, grief, sadness and anger, in the form of neurotransmitters, become stuck in a muscle and create a neuromuscular block. Application of oil to the skin goes into the deeper tissues and begins to release the emotions and tensions. The qualities of sesame oil helps release and stimulates certain neurotransmitters in the central nervous system.
